Building Capability
Overview
In collaboration with a key Australian government team responsible for foreign investment, Décor Data embarked on a mission to enhance their data capabilities. Scott, eager to improve his Power BI skills, faced the challenge of navigating complex data sources and compliance metrics with limited expertise. The team needed Scott to advance from a beginner to an intermediate level, mastering DAX formulas, Power Query intricacies, and integration features to meet evolving needs.
The Problem
Working with a government foreign investment team, Décor Data identified a critical gap in Power BI expertise. Scott, a team member keen to enhance his Power BI skills, struggled to navigate intricate data sources and compliance requirements.
The team lacked the technical skills needed to leverage Power BI effectively, requiring Scott to progress from beginner to intermediate proficiency. He needed to master DAX formulas, Power Query, and integration features to support the team’s evolving needs.
Our Solution
To address these challenges, Décor Data provided tailored mentorship focused on practical learning through the Power BI Learning Journey. Scott systematically progressed, mastering requirements gathering, data connections, and advanced data modelling.
Through structured training, he learned to set up workspaces, control versions, and securely share content via Power BI Service. Intensive coaching improved his DAX skills, report design, and ability to integrate Power BI reports with external tools. The mentorship program, led by experienced professionals, prioritised both technical proficiency and effective communication. As a result, Scott’s transformation significantly enhanced the team’s data management practices.
