Overview

Over the past 18 months, we have partnered with a leading government agency to roll out a comprehensive Power BI training programme, tailored specifically to the nuances of public sector professionals handling finance and regulatory data. Our goal was clear from the outset: to build a strong organisational capability in data analytics and reporting by making Power BI a tool within everyone’s reach.

The Challenge

This agency faced a pressing need to harness the full potential of Power BI across multiple teams. The challenge was twofold: not only did we need to educate staff on the technical aspects of Power BI, but we also had to instil confidence in them to derive actionable insights and create their own reports. With over 100 staff members of varying skill levels, the training needed to be robust yet flexible, aligning with the agency’s specific data structures and reporting requirements.

Our Solution

We developed a bespoke Power BI training programme, seamlessly incorporating the agency’s branding and the specific datasets their teams engage with. Recognising the diverse learning paces and styles within a government setting, we designed a suite of training materials, including custom videos, to ensure long-term learning and retention. These resources were integrated into the agency’s custom Learning Management System (LMS), providing easy access and a unified learning experience.

Our training was not a one-off event. We developed detailed fact sheets to provide ongoing support and established a lasting partnership with the agency to offer continuous assistance. This ongoing support framework ensures that as Power BI evolves, so too will the capabilities of their staff.

Outcomes

The results of our training programme have been significant:

  1. Skilled Workforce: Over 100 staff members are now proficient in Power BI, capable of transforming raw data into insightful reports independently.
  2. Organisational Autonomy: Staff members have gained the autonomy to create their own reports, fostering a culture of self-service analytics.
  3. Lasting Education: Through custom-made video content, staff can revisit training material, reinforcing their learning and staying updated with the latest Power BI features.
  4. Ongoing Support: The developed fact sheets serve as quick-reference guides, reinforcing knowledge and providing support on the fly.
